When I was a child I was told an ancestor of my mine was in charge of a city prison in Scotland (Edinburgh or Glasgow, sadly I cannot remember which), in the mid 19th century. Does anyone know how I could find details of the people who staffed the prison service in either or both of these two cities? My great grandfather's surname was HARVEY, and family tradition says he was presented to Queen Victoria.
