    3. Judy: Both occupations are from "The Edinburgh Marriage Register, 1595 - 1700. Coriar: ,, Margaret [Aitkin]; Andrew Russell, coriar 16 Nov. 1643 " George [Anderson], coriar ; Magdalene Clerk 21 May 1646 etc. Douker: " William [Haddington], douker ; Catharine Alison 12 Mar. 1687 I have only run across one entry for "douker." My "The Concise Scots Dictionary" has a number of meanings for "dook/douk." relating to ducks, bathing and mining. Coriar, or anything like it doesn't occur in my Scots dictionary, but Webster's unabridged has "corium" from the Latin for leather in relation to the derivation of the name Coriaria (Latin) for a plant used to make a black dye in Europe. A leather dyer? Any help greatly appreciated. Richard Robertson
