    3. Hi Barbara, I was really wondering if you had a Susan Kinghorn in among your McKays. I will tell you what I know: Susan Kinghorn b 1837 married 27th July 1857 at East Pitt Street (her home) John McKay 25 Couper Street, Leith Engineer (Batchelor) Father William McKay Farmer Mother Janet MS Mills (I have decided I do not believe this & suspect it may be Miller) Harry Duff minister of South Leith, Robert McKay, Mary Kinghorn; witnesses Catherine Murphy McKay was born to them in Newcastle upon Tyne in Dec. 1857 (she was named after her maternal grandmother). In the 1861 census she was staying with her aunts in Leith. Here one starts to speculate. "Staying" to a Scot can also mean "living" (as in Where do you stay? means Where do you live?) so it may or may not have been a long term arrangement. She was not yet 3 1/2 ; where were her parents? Some years down the track we have another wedding: Margaret Kinghorn b 1861 married 9th July 1883 Charles Kinghorn MacIntosh, Master Mariner (Batchelor) 26 years Father Alexander MacIntosh (deceased) Mother Susan MacIntosh MS Kinghorn (deceased) As Susan Kinghorns are not exactly common to put it mildly, one assumes that it was the same person. Interesting, given that C K MacIntosh must also have been born c. 1857! Any information gratefully received.
