Broxburn-based MacDonald and Muir Ltd want to find surviving members of the Crabbie family to celebrate their ancestors' Green Ginger Wine. John MacRabbie (or MacRobbie), who fought at Culloden and then dropped the "Mac" from his name to avoid persecution, moved to Leith in the 18th century and set up a grocery business. In 1801 the business really took off when Crabbie's Green Ginger Wine, made from a secret family recipe, became an instant success. The family sold the business to Distillers Company Limited in 1963 and, in 1993, MacDonald and Muir Ltd, Glenmorangie's owner, took over. Lorna McMillan, Crabbie's brand manager, explained: " We've produced a special edition bottle and we would love to track down any of the Crabbie family and give them a case."
