    3. I think I have found Theophile in 1881 "Royal Edinburgh Asylum" for Western Dept Edinburgh St Cuthberts FHL film 0223989 GRO ref vol 685-1 Enum dist 10 Page 3 Theophile THENVENEAU patient occup: sailor unmarried 46 male born Edinburgh, Edinburgh Scotland (ie Edinburgh in the county of Edinburgh) lunatic bearing all this in mind I would not be too sure about the details given. there were a lot of patients and can we be sure the person giving the details was careful to check all their marital statuses and places of birth? I dont think so! ;-) This was one of only two entries for this given name in Lowland Scotland. If you go to www.scots-origins.com and check the free surname search you will find: Results showing the number of records with surname Theveneau between 1553 and 1899 in each dataset: Scots Origins dataset No. of records Old Parish Record Births/Christenings (1553-1854) 0 Old Parish Record Marriages (1553-1854) 0 Statutory Index Births (1855-1899) 3 Statutory Index Marriages (1855-1899) 0 Statutory Index Deaths (1855-1924) 1 1881 Census 0 1891 Census 0 Total 4 I did another search with a wildcard, and picked up an extra result in the 1881 census - presumably poor Theophile, and then a third wider search as follows Surname search results Results showing the number of records with surname Thev* between 1553 and 1899 in each dataset: Scots Origins dataset No. of records Old Parish Record Births/Christenings (1553-1854) 0 Old Parish Record Marriages (1553-1854) 0 Statutory Index Births (1855-1899) 3 Statutory Index Marriages (1855-1899) 0 Statutory Index Deaths (1855-1924) 1 1881 Census 7 1891 Census 4 Total 15 It looks possible that Jean BLAIKIE and Theophile did not marry. But I think it would be worth investing six quid in a search of the Scots Origins info, especially as some of the census images can now be viewed on line. Unfortunately the 7 entries in 1881 turned out to be a family called THEVY. Finally, what is the source for Isadore's birth details and what year was he born? By interrogating the index further I found that 2 THEVENEAU births occurred in the years 1870-72, a death in 1873 and a birth in 1874.
