Chris, The only directory I have for the period is 1884-5 and there is no William Norrie listed either alphabetically or in Abercrombie Place. The Edinburgh Room at Edinburgh Central Library, George IV Bridge, may be willing to look up other years, or even have more information on your William is he was well known. Stuart.
