My father and uncle attended this school during the early 1900s. 1. Are there any pictures available of the zepplin that crashed into the roof of the school? 2. Is it possible to obtain class lists for this period? 3. Is there a past students association and do they have a publication? 4. Is there a web site for the academy? Stephanie My father was there during the early 1900s and I have a class photo --- it'll take time to find it, but I'll get back to you off-list with details. All boys in the photo are named, so it's a case of crossing your fingers that our dads coincided! Stephanie, I have a history of George Watson's College and, although it does not have any photographs of the event it does contain the following information on the Zeppelin raid:- "During the Zeppelin air raid of the night of 2 and 3 April 1916, a bomb fell on the playground just outside the west wing classrooms, smashing windows and doing considerable damage. To the excitement of the boys was added the satisfaction of an additional week's holiday. A plaque was set in the wall near the point of impact, and a German Eagle was set in the pavement. Both of these were offered to the Merchant Company Education Board by the demolition contractors after Watson's moved from Archibald Place to Colinton Road." There is also lots of other useful information such as - in 1910, there were 1209 boys on the roll with fees ranging from £3 8s to £10 15s. Hope this is of interest. Best regards Val Wilson (ex pupil of George Watson's Ladies College!) Edinburgh ______________________________
