I have a marriage notice 4 June 1873 Sowerby marrying Isabella Livingston daughter of late John Livingston of Edinburgh Prison. We assume that he was governor or warden rather than an inmate- not the sort of thing you would mention! Any clues as to where I would find a list of staff and where would it have been?
