Please can someone tell me what denomination St Stephens Church would be? An address I could write to would be a bonus! I have a George MATHIESON on my tree whose residence is St Vincent Street House Under St Stephens Church on the 1881 census. His occupation is "church officer" and I would like to find out more about him from the church records, if possible. St Stephens is Church of Scotland ie the established church. The Church of Scotland HQ is 121 George St Edinburgh tel 131 225 5722 fax 131 220 3113 you could write to the church elders/minister etc at Stephens Church, St Vincent Street Edinburgh and it would get there But the records are more likely to be either in the National Archives of Scotland or perhaps the National Library of Scotland..use google etc to find the National Register of Archives and search on there to find out If you look on one of the map sites you will see that St Stephens is at the bottom of St Vincent Street to the north of Princes Street and east of Stockbridge.
