New to list and new to researching in Scotland. My husband's grandparents married in Edinburgh in 2 July 1912 at Newhaven, Leith. I have the original "Certificate of Proclamation of Banns" noted at the top and "Certificate of Marriage" noted at the bottom. Is there any more information than this available-or is what the Registrar would have be the same thing? The husband, Victor Hugh Lyle Smyth, was from Londonderry and his family was still there. The wife, Phoebe Annette Irvine's family was also still in Londonderry. The certificate says Phoebe was of the Parish of Newhaven, Leith which would indicate perhaps she was living in Edinburg and as an unmarried female that was raised in a family with servants-would she have been employed in Edinburgh or living with family?? What would be the custom. The certificate was mailed to the new Mrs. Smyth c/o W. E. Cowie, Esq., 29 Trinity Road, Leith. Any ideas on how to find out who W.E. Cowie, Esq. was? or if he is a relative? Thank you for your help. Julie Smyth Washington State, USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
