    3. I don't know where Burnet's Close is but from experience of reading PO directories I think this will turn out to be two separate addresses. ie this is a trade entry which also mentions where the person had his private address. As for the Signet Law Firm, is this definitely the name of the firm itself and not a reference to 'Writers to the Signet'? 3. Hi Colin Just a point of info. One of the features of Edinburgh's Old Town is the system of Wynds and Closes which open off the main thoroughfares of which the Lawnmarket is one. It is more than likely that Burnets Close does in fact open from Lawnmarket and each of the dwellings which lay behind the main road would also at some point have been given an identifying number. It is unlikely to be a separate address as such. However I am going to be working in Edinburgh tomorrow and I will check with my boss, who until very recently lived in the Lawnmarket if that is of any help. Also, Judy is very likely to be right in that the law firm your David did his apprenticeship at were Writers to the Signet, but that this is not the firm's name. Several firms were designated WS and is a reflection of their particular legal status under Scots Law.
