Does anyone know where I would be most likely to find reference to, or a biographical sketch of, a family member who was prominent in the field of education? Also, I would be interested in information about the following schools: William Norrie was born about 1840 in Edinburgh. He was educated at Greenock Academy where he later taught, and also was a teacher of Eng. Literature and the Classics at Edinburgh Institution, Merchiston Castle School, and Edinburgh Collegiate School in Charlotte Square. >From 1875-1878 he taught in New Zealand, then returned to Edinburgh. Still a teacher in 1881 census. What records should I be looking at after that? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Chris Draisey, U.S.A.
Edinburgh Institution became Melville College and after amalgamation is now Daniel Stewarts and Melville College. They might have records going that far back at Queensferry Road, Edinburgh. Stuart.
