    1. [EDB] OLD PARISH RECORDS (OPR)
    2. Bill Caddell
    3. I have recently downloaded from Scots Origins, GRO various index records of births, christenings, and marriages. Being unfamiliar with GRO OPR records, what other records exist that may be reviewed? I was told that the OPR did not record all christenings in the various parishes. Any comments or suggestions? 1. Re: [EDB] Abercorn
    2. Stuart Laing
    3. The parish of Abercorn is on the south bank of the Forth estuary, just west of Queensferry. In the centre is Hopetoun House and its estate. Abercorn these days is just a few buildings. Lawflat is a building marked on the map just south of the A904, about a mile and a half west of its junction with the A90. Map reference 106777 on Landranger map sheet 65. It has its own drive and does not look big enough to be a farm. Perhaps it is a large house. 1. [EDB] John and James Grierson
    2. Doris Hope
    3. This is my first posting to your list. I am searching for information on my Grierson family who lived in the Edinburgh, Musselburgh, and Stockbridge areas from at least 1782 till the 1840s. Two boys , James and John, sons of a Lt. James Grierson, R.N., and his wife Elizabeth, were christened in Cowgate Chapel of the Episcopal church in Edinburgh in 1782 and 1783 respectively. Both boys later joined the Royal Navy. In 1808, James, the first-named boy, married an Isabella Simpson of Canongate, daughter of the late John Simpson, a merchant of Edinburgh. In 1812 he used an address of 6 North Richmond St., Edinburgh. In 1817 he remarried a Margaret Ferguson of Aberdeen. The second-named boy, John, in 1806 married an Ann Grinton, of Cramond or Corstorphine, and lived in Stockbridge until 1822. Another Lt. James Grierson, R.N. , born about 1740, (maybe their father and maybe not) lived in Edinburgh or Leith or Musselburgh from at least 1784 till his death in 1810. He married in Canongate in 1794 another Isobel Simpson, the daughter of a tide-waiter at Leith. She received a Naval pension at Musselburgh until the 1840s. I look forward to receiving any and all clues. Doris Hope, Ottawa.
