    1. [EDB] Storrs Brookfield - obit request
    2. Hi Listers, Yesterday I sent a request to the list for a look up on Robert Manners. My error - his name was Robert Storrs Brookfield (a senior moment)? Robert was born 9 November 1841 and baptized: 2 February 1842 at 9 Clare St. Nova Scotia. He died in Edinburgh 10 February 1869, aged 27 years, a civil engineer of Halifax Nova Scotia. He is buried in Wentworth, Yorkshire. Can anyone advise me on how I can learn more details regarding his death, please. TIA, Sheila California

    1. [EDB] FARQUHARSON
    2. Victoria Wisternoff
    3. My ancestor Andrew FARQUHARSON appears in the 1841 census in Edinburgh, aged 65, Sheriff's Officer, not born in County. In the 1851 census only his daughters Catherine, Christian and Mary were at that address and Andrew and his wife Lilias GRAY were "deceased" on Mary's marriage certificate in 1855. Are there Wills available for that time or are there any records relating to his occupation that might help me trace his birth place and/or parents? Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks. 1. [EDB] Cunningham
    2. Doug Boyd
    3. Hello, Several people have posted recently about an "Alexander Cunningham". I have a "Robert Alexander Cunningham" (b. Jan 08, 1867, d. Oct 1872) in my tree... he was only 5 years old when he died. However, I have no other than his father was "Robert Cunningham" (b. Aug 11, 1838, d. Aug 06, 1872) and mother was "Margaret Sutherland" (d. March 05, 1983) and siblings William Cunningham (b July 23, 1862, d, 1935), John Sutherland Cunningham (b. March 07, 1864, d. 1938), Jessie Ann Cunningham (b. July 03, 1869, d. Oct 27, 1943), and Alexandria Cunningham (b July 12, 1871, d. March 14, 1872). Do any of these help the searchers of Cunningham? Or, do any of the Cunningham searchers have any of these people in their tree? (I have run into a dead end as well...) ======================================== Doug Boyd d.d.boyd@home.com http://members.home.net/d.d.boyd/index.htm ========================================

    3. Stephanie, I have a history of George Watson's College and, although it does not have any photographs of the event it does contain the following information on the Zeppelin raid:- "During the Zeppelin air raid of the night of 2 and 3 April 1916, a bomb fell on the playground just outside the west wing classrooms, smashing windows and doing considerable damage. To the excitement of the boys was added the satisfaction of an additional week's holiday. A plaque was set in the wall near the point of impact, and a German Eagle was set in the pavement. Both of these were offered to the Merchant Company Education Board by the demolition contractors after Watson's moved from Archibald Place to Colinton Road." There is also lots of other useful information such as - in 1910, there were 1209 boys on the roll with fees ranging from £3 8s to £10 15s. Hope this is of interest. Best regards Val Wilson (ex pupil of George Watson's Ladies College!) Edinburgh ______________________________

His sister Jane Russell (Jeannie) Baillie married a man named Cunningham and emigrated to America, according to my grandfather's notes. My g-grandfather's will was witnessed in 1928 by a James Cunningham, but I have no idea whether either of those Cunninghams was connected to Joseph G. Caledonian Crescent, by the way, is in the Dalry area, not the same part of Edinburgh as Newington.

    2. M. L. Branson
    3. James Justice, 1698-1763, was the first person to successfully ripen a pineapple in Scotland and fell victim to "Tulip Madness", dying bankrupt. He was also principal Clerk to the Court of Session in Edinburgh, per a 1999 gardening book review I found. Does anyone on this list have records, indications, proof, hunches, etc. of who his parents were (I'm particularly interested in that), if he had siblings, and who his widow was? She had to sell his precious plants and bulbs after his death. Thanks for any assistance, Mary Lou Branson in Fort Worth, Texas

    2. Margaret Kipp
    3. Hello List: I read with interest your exerpt from the book by M'Combie. In our (Stewart) family, we have long understood that our ancestors came from Appin as retainers with a women who married on Lochtayside, and lived near Lawers. She was known as the Lady of Lawers and many of her prophesies came true. Our family name was McCombich before it was Stewart. I have not heard of the connection with Clan McIntosh before, although there were certainly McIntoshes around Aberfeldy and district. I wonder if there is any connection betwee McCombich's and M'Combie. Margaret in Toronto
