    3. Hi Agnes or anyone who can help me please. I am looking for Margaret SUMMERS in Edinburgh who would possibly be aged between 50 and 60 in 1851. I know that she was definitely living in Edinburgh and still was in 1864. At the time of her marriage in 1820 she was living at No 9 Leith Street. The birth of her first child in 1821 showed them to be in Fountainbridge. I caught the name of BROWN being researched because correspondence that I have mentions a Mrs BROWN who was a friend of Margaret SUMMERS. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Noeline

    3. A BIG thank you to all you wonderful people who took the time to reply to my query about New Register House. The responses were overwhelmingly in favor of researching there, and I appreciated the details about how the system works. I shall definitely plan on going, I love finding pieces to the puzzle :) Just one more thing, can anyone give me some idea as to which part of Edinburgh would be best to find a B&B - somewhere close to buses, so it would be relatively easy to get to NRH. Please e-mail me privately. Thanks. Christine, USA

I would like to find James's date of birth. They were married on 5th. James's parents - John and Jean Sinclair married in Edinburgh on 25th. August 1820. James must have been born approx. 1826 and there were probably other children born to the family as well, but I cannot find any trace of records. Is anyone else connected to this family please? 2. =^.^=
    3. I want to obtain a marriage certificate for a marriage that took place on 17 Dec 1860 in Leith. Looking at the Scottish GRO website it says that you can apply at the local Registration Office where the marriage was originally registered. Does anyone know what the address would be for Leith and whether it would be any quicker than applying directly to the GRO in Edinburgh? -- Best Wishes Angela <boon.bluecats@dtn.ntl.com> Pettistree Homepage http://www.pettistree.suffolk.gov.uk/

    2. Stuart Laing
    3. Chris, Yes, spend a day there!! The records are far in advance of the FRC in London. All the indexes are on computer, searchable very easily and quickly: the OPRs up to 1854, then all registrations from 1855 to about two months before the present,. ALL the certificates from 1855 up to about three years ago are available on microfiche there and then! So you can hopefully make terrific progress in a short time. It costs £17 for the day - but that is only three certificates from England! You can book your seat in advance and really need to be there early to make best use of the day there. Good hunting Stuart. 2. Hi, I was wondering about your relative Robert INGLIS Watt. My ggrandfather Alexander Inglis was from Edinburgh and have had difficulty locating his parents. Just wondering about your INGLIS and who his grandparents (INGLIS) were? Do you know much about them? My ggrandfather Alexander was born in 1862. I'm not exactly sure when he immigrated to the US, but because he married my ggrandmother Agnes Lindsay (from Aberdeen) in Chicago in 1885, I'm thinking around 1883-85. 2. Hi Agnes, I've been banging my head against a BROWN brick wall (so to speak) for ages. Maybe you can help. My GGGrandfather Andrew BROWN married Helen TERRAS in 1844. The 1851 Census should find them at 33 Thistle Street, plus sons Alexander (born 1845) and James (born 1850). I've managed to trace his wife's side back several generations to north east Fife, but I'm stuck with Andrew. All I know is that he was a tailor, born abt 1816 and that his father, George, was a baker who may have lived at 10 Bernard Place, Leith. I can't trace Andrew's exact DoB, place of birth, or anything more about his parents. Is he there in the 1851 index? Any trace of parents living with him or a George Brown at the Leith address? Any help greatly appreciated. David Brown Burnley, Lancs
