    1. [EDB] Where is Richmond?
    2. Richard Robertson
    3. In the St. Cuthbert's OPR for the baptism of my second great grandmother, Janet MONRO, her father Charles is listed as a "thread manufacturer in Richmond..." Charles was baptized in Edinburgh Parish, his wife, Janet HUNTER, was born in St. Cuthbert's Parish and Janet was baptized at St. Cuthbert's, so I assume Richmond is a Midlothian location. Perhaps a neighborhood in Edinburgh? Any help greatly appreciated. Richard Robertson richrob4@home.com http://members.home.net/richrob4/index.htm

    2. Colin Darby
    3. To Researches, With the help of a Kind Lister who found for us four OGILVY'S which do appear to be ours; they are William Spence OGILVY b 28/12/1806, Catharine OGILVY b 16/12/1808, Thomas Davidson OGILVY b 1/10/1813, and Catharine Ogilvy b 7/3/1811. showing their Father David OGILVY and mother Catharine Mrs SPENCE. We have a David OGILVY (painter of Edinburgh) who was married in 2/7/1801 in Edinburgh to Catharina SPENCE (Catharina's father John SPENCE painter of Edinburgh). From this marriage we have their son David OGILVY (my Great Great Grandfather) born 16/6/1804 (who did law at the Signet Edinburgh) It is logical that the other four found are ours! Does Some Kind Soul have an Edinburgh Census to check for this period to see if the above and advise us of the listing? We seem to be at a stand still and any help would be appreciated Regards, --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. Original message sent to Midlothian list... Dear List Members: I have learned that the muster rolls for the Battle of Worcester, 1651, would be housed at the National Archives of Edinburgh. Would anyone have a suggestion of how one might obtain this list? Do you believe my ancestor's place of birth will be in evidence! I am in my seventy-fourth year and this find is exciting to this old man! The group of researchers of our family lines will be shocked when I present them with information, which I hope to find, on our ancestor. Your reply and advise may not be read tonight but a prayer will be said on your behalf and I remain, Respectfully, Chester H. Cowen {Cowing} de Colquhoun... 3. Hi Could someone please lookup the family of Amor Donnison in Edinburgh on the 1881 CD's.I have found them in the 1891 through Scots Origins at Newington,Edinburgh .They were originally from Gateshead/Newcastle area but are not on the 1881 anywhere in NE England.Isabella Donnison married Thomas Swift Hutton a painter from Edinburgh in 1886 in Dunblane,Perth. His works are fairly common in NE England but have not found any mention of him in Scotland even though the Hutton family came from Edinburgh.I do have Thomas in the 1881 with siblings but his parents James Chalmers Hutton and Martha Hay Finlay Gleadhill are not with them so assume they are not living.Any help on the Donnisons in 1881 and the art career of Hutton appreciated. 1. [EDB] Victoria Cross ancestor
    2. perle harvey
    3. Hello All, I am new to this list and have hit a brick wall. My mother's cousin Joseph McIntyre inherited a Victoria Cross from his father Finlay McIntyre. The Victoria Cross was awarded to William Reynolds who was a private with the Scots Fusiliers. He was awarded the VC for bravery in the Battle of Alma in the Crimean War of 1854. William died in London 20 October, 1869. I am trying to find out how he was related to the McIntyre family. My 'Uncle' Joseph McIntyre returned the VC to the company headquarters museum in Edinburgh a few years ago. Any help in solving this mystery would be very much appreciated. William Reynolds is supposed to have been born circa 1827 in Edinburgh, fought in the Crimean War 1854 and died in London 1869. He had a pension of 10d a day from the army. I don't know whether he married or what his parents names were. Perle Harvey at paarharvey@ozemail.com.au in Australia. It is a bit difficult to do this research here.

    1. [EDB] John McKAY and Annie WATSON
    2. shortis
    3. The above lived in Canongate, they married in St Cuthbert's church in 1816. Issue: Isobella born 1817, Walter b 1820, Alexander b 1824, Francis b 1830, George b 1827 and John b 1833. The above were in the 1851 Census for St Cuthbert's, Canongate, but when I tried for them in the 1861 and 1871...there didn't seem to be a census for St Cuthbert's (as such). I ordered in a few census films for surrounding areas...with no results. Alexander, George and John seem to be very popular [McKay] names in Edinburgh and would be hard to pin down..which leaves Walter and Francis. Walter went to New Zealand, and then on to NSW Australia. He married produced a family and died in NSW.....that leaves Francis. Are any of the above details familiar to anyone on the list? I am seeking the descendants of the above and would happily share Walter's information. Thanking you. Mary Shortis shortis@spot.com.au st Cuthbert
