    3. Hello Ray I have a possible connection for you--at least I hope it is. My husband's grandmother was Helen Nelson Robertson. She was born May 19, 1901 to Donald Robertson and Helen Gibson. Donald and Helen married Feb 11, 1901. Helen Gibson's parents were John Gibson and Helen Nelson. They were married Aug 5, 1872 in Dunfermline. Do you think there is a connection to your family? I really hope so. Helen Nelson Robertson came to USA in 1923 through Sault Ste Marie Ontario. She settled south of Chicago IL and in Northern Indiana. Her application for citizenship says she came alone. Where abouts did your Nelsons settle in USA? If ours settled in same area then we may have found a reason why she came to USA without her family. Hi List, Would it be useful to anybody to have the available dates for the OPR's in any particular parish? I have a list that gives all the dates of Birth / Christenings, Marriages & Death's for any particular parish in Scotland. These are the records which are held by the GRO in Edinburgh, so I don't know if the LDS records would cover the same dates etc. However, at least you would know if records exist in the time frame that your ancestors were in a particular parish. If this would be of use to you, let me know the parish/s. Regards, James Motion Scotland. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 1. [EDB] Virus Protection a la RootsWeb!
    2. Jaguar
    3. Just received from central command. Appearing here with the permission of list administrators only. Maybe we can all get back to the task at hand and belay the virus memos. I hope this will end the on-going discussion of where the responsibility lies. We are all on our own...act accordingly. Subject: Re: [Fwd: Abuse (Chris #85786)] (fwd) (Chris #86837) Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 10:29:40 -0600 From: RootsWeb HelpDesk <helpdesk-post@rootsweb.com> "RootsWeb simply does not have a focus of virus education," "There are plenty of places on the internet which disseminate anti-virus information." "Mailing List administrators set the rules and tone of their individual lists -- if you break the rules, you are at risk for being banned. Administrators are aware of, and have the authority, to remove any list subscribers who are infected with a virus. You are free to contact other list subscribers privately, but there you run the risk of being the sender of unwanted and unrequested mail. A recipient can report you to the list admin, and more importantly, to their ISP as a spammer in that case. Then, you run the risk of losing email privileges entirely. So, as much as your efforts to educate are good-hearted, the bottom line is that RootsWeb mailing lists are simply not the place for you to act." ---------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2001 Alan kemp Dempster, Ontario, Canada You are guaranteed honest advice and a person of Christian integrity. 2. elnalexjoe
    3. Alan, Having just returned from researching in Edinburgh and not up to scratch with the list - I don't know if you have this information already - in 1993 I wrote off to Edinburgh City Archives regarding Craiglockhart poorhouse and hospital (where my granny spent some time). They didn't find info. on her but sent me a copy admission sheet for the period I was interested in (1930s) to "provide a flavour of the many reasons for admission". They also sent a description of its beginnings in 1870 when it replaced the Charity Workhouse at Bristo Port following through to its passing into various administrative hands. The records were deposited in the Edinburgh City Archives in 1964 along with various photographs but are by no means complete. If you are interested I would be very happy to send you by attachment the full description which also gives reference numbers to locate the records within their archives. Best wishes, Eileen in Hampshire
