Would anyone be kind enough to look in the 1851 census for Alexander & Isabel LAWRIE/LAURIE . List of addresses where they could be 8 Physic Gardens. 81 High Street Chalmers Close. 15 St Andrew Street. Occupation Master Dyer Thank you Tonita Lawrie
There was/is a Catholic church named St. Mary's in Edinburgh that had started by that time (I had an ancestor baptised there in 1832). The records have not been microfilmed so you need to hire a researcher if you can't go yourself. The web site for this is at http://www.btinternet.com/~stmaryscathedral/st_marys/ There is also a St. Mary's Cathedral that is Anglican . I haven't had any ancestors there so the information about its records hasn't stuck.... But it has a web site at http://www.cathedral.net/uk/scotland/edinburgh/ep/ Hope this helps, BJ Mary & Andy McKinlay wrote: > I would be very pleased if S.K.S. can give me some advice on how to find the Marriage records for St. Mary's Church Edinburgh April-May of 1837. Hello everyone I have just come by this bit of information, here's hoping to expand a tad! Daniel CURRIE born in Edinburgh, Scotland died about 40 years ago (I think in this 70's) in South Africa. He married a Addy (Aderline) BOOTH - I believe she was born in Yorkshire. I'm not certain where they married or when. Thanking you and here's hoping Janis Currie Pinetown, Natal, South Africa
Can anyone on the list tell me about the Scottish Record Society? Does it still exist? If so, how can I contact the Society? I've e-mailed several individuals that were past officers of the organization but have gotten not response as yet. Any help greatly appreciated. Hello Steve Causewayside is a street in the Newington area of Edinburgh I think, it is certainly near there. I visited last year, looking for houses where my ancestors had lived. Best wishes Helen Curtis Scottish Genealogical Transcription Service www.genealogicalservices.co.uk Please check site regularly for changes and updates
This is a different Causewayside. Charlie's explanation is the correct one. Hello Judy Second attempt hope this is not returned! Could l ask if you would be kind enough to look for an entry in the 1851 census for Alexander LAWRIE/LAURIE and wife Isabella. Address could be 8 Old Physic Gardens, or 81 High Street Chalmers Close, or even a possibility of 15 St Andrew Street. Would appreciate your help Thank you Tonita Lawrie
Steve Just a wee tip when searching through the Origins site anything pre 1855 enter in the red district box Midlothian and 1855 upwards you need to enter the district name ( i.e. St.Giles ,Canongate, Newington.) followed by either Edin or Edinburgh. and if your looking in Leith you have to put South Leith or Leith South the same goes for North many times I thought there just wasn't anything to return or you would have to do a general search for all of Scotland and that doesn't half cut in to the amount of pages to download if I can help further just ask Charlie Small - Edinburgh stephenmorrison wrote: > Judy, > > Once again my grateful thanks for your kind assistance, and my apologies for my shameless demands on your good nature. Judy, Once again my grateful thanks for your kind assistance, and my apologies for my shameless demands on your good nature. I have had a look at the GRO site.
