    3. Thanks. A little confused by the 2nd sentence. I passed West Richmond Street (off Nicolson Sreet- is this the same as The Bridges?) last time I was in Edinburgh. I am up again this w/e. Richmond Lane & Richmond Place are nearby. East Richmond Street (or Richmond's Street.) - the address I'm after- might perhaps have been nearby. Do you know if the area was ever partially redeveloped? Do you know if it was ever where all the baker's hoses/shops were? James Forman, Baker was married from there in 1780. "My" James Forman born 1751 in Kincardine-in-Menteith (became WS in Edinburgh in 1784) was from a family of bakers in Stirlings. & Clackmannans. ==== Angela Boon gave me a good site :<http://www.ebs.hw.ac.uk/STREETS/part2/a.htm> which has the ff. 3. Ian, Thanks for that. My relation's address was 1, Adelphi Place, Leith Links (from where his brother wrote the invitations to his funeral in 1846 at St Cuthbert's-to about 150 people including an Earl and a Lord!). It is also written in family correspondence as Leith Links South. Isn't it stretching Leith somewhat to include Portobello? Perhaps there used to be another Adelphi Place. I am now certain the George Forman, Wine Merchant, Adelphi Place is NOT the same as the George Forman, Publican, (Levenhall) although close contemporaries. I'm in Leith this w/e so will look at your mum's house. 3. Dear Ella, Thanks. This information has enabled me to correct two assumptions I had made. Please see the List for the first. The second is that I think it very likely that the John Forman "Salt Manufacturer" from the Census [see below]born about 1852 in Inveresk is a brother of the Charles Forman "Salt Manufacturer" born about 1840 in Inveresk. He married Jane Cleuch Marshall in Tranent and had kids (whose eldest son was George) in Cockenzie. I had thought James Charles Forman BA Oxon (in Sciences), born in 1840 in Edinburgh- my relation, whose parents lived at Eskhill, Inveresk- was this person. 3. Dear John, Thanks for that. I am now certain the George Forman, Wine Merchant, Adelphi Place is NOT the same as the George Forman, Publican, (Levenhall) although close contemporaries. The first married Elisabeth Gairdner Richardson: the second seems to have predeceased Mrs Forman (according to the '81 census Marion Forman, a widow, was publican at Levenhall, aged 75, with children ). The IGI has a Marion Bowman marrying George Forman in 1826 and having those children. 3. Steve: Finding names the same as your own in Black's won't trace your ancestors. Start with your 2 parents, and obtain documentation (birth, marriage and death certificates). Then do the same for your 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, 16 gg-grandparents, etc. In the course of your research, you may come across the names you found in Black's, but if not, it mearly means that they have the same name as you, not that you are related. 3. Hi Everyone, I am interested to find out more about the family of my great great grandfather John BURN (1815-1885) and his wife Mary DICKSON (1817-1893). John was a stonemason who from c.1849 was a clerk at Hailes Quarry in Colinton. In 1871 he was described as Superintendent of Hailes Quarry. The children of John and Mary BURN (all born in Edinburgh) were:- 1) Isabella BURN b.1840; m.1875 to John Bowden LAKE in Invercargill, New Zealand. John LAKE died in 1878 and I don't know what happened to Isabella. I can't find a remarriage nor death for her in New Zealand, maybe she returned to Edinburgh. 2) Thomas BURN b.1842; no further information 3) Lewis Alexander Wallace BURN b.1843; with family in 1861 census; no further information 4) Archibald BURN b.1845; emigrated to New Zealand c.1867 --> my line 5) William Thomas BURN b.1849; 1871 with family at Hailes Quarry, described as an architect; no further information 6) John Robert BURN b.1851; died 1878 7) David Laing BURN b.1853; d.1893 Edinburgh; married Lizzie BRENNAN or BRANNAN after 1881; marriage record not found 8) Roseanna Jessie Laing BURN b.1856; m.1887 Thomas D.
