Well, it's an affectionate way I have of referring to myself - a synonym for "doofus" and "idiot"! Hello Kelly, Do you know if your Agnes Baird was from East Lothian? I am looking for info re Euphemia Baird born about 1800. She later married a John Nisbet about 1824 and lived in Haddington, East Lothian. I found one born 1795, but I need to find their elusive marriage cert to verify. Would love to hear from you about any Baird info you might share. You people are amazing! It sure didn't take you long to get back to me. I want you to know that this really means a lot of me. I am deeply touched that strangers would take time out of their own busy lives to help someone that they don't know. That was an excellent ida about writing letters. Here I was counting the hours time difference between here and Scotland! What a goombah I can be sometimes! And I live in Edmonton, Alberta, so don't "whine" to me about the weather! I'm just kidding. We're really having some up and down temperatures. It's supposed to be -19 here on Saturday night, and then up to two degrees Celsius on Sunday! Ah, well; what can you do? This is Canada after all! And actually, it's my great-grandfather, James Tait, that I'm wondering what happened to. I'm beginning to think that he left his wife and possibly Scotland when their oldest daughter, my maternal grandmother, died on May 27th, 1942, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 33, under very tragic circumstances. I mean, I wonder if their marriage had the strength to survive the loss of a daughter whom they were estranged from. James and Annie nee Heslin had two daughters: Mary, born in August, 1908; and Agnes (she was always called Addie), born in September, 1910. Both girls came to Canada looking for a better way of life in 1928 and 1929, respectively. Mary and Addie ended up marrying Metis men (Cree Indian and French) and were disowned by their parents as a result, plus Grandma Mary was pregnant with my mother, Rosemary Hamelin dit Emblau. I always wondered how well James and Annie took THAT news way back in 1929/30 (Mom was born on April 25th, 1930). Grandma Mary died in Calgary, and Aunt Addie died in Vancouver in December, 1977. I'm just telling you all this information just in case one of my Tait descendents reads this message. James Tait had two brothers: Cornelius Fortune Tait, Jr. and Robert Baird Tait (Baird was their mother Agnes' maiden name). Well, thanks, again - so very much - everyone! Have a great weekend! I was wondering if anyone would mind looking up the telephone numbers for anyone with the last name "Tait" in the Edinburgh phone book, especially Portobello. Either that, or direct me to an Edinburgh website where I can look up the numbers myself. Thanks, everyone, if you are able to help! My grandfather, James Tait, seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I cannot seem to find a death certificate for him - at least not in Scotland, so I am hoping to locate descendants of his two brothers. Ms. Kelly Tyler Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Hello Ella aka Margaret Graham/Grahame/Graeme born c 1851 Edinburgh. PARENTS please Might be the wider Edinburgh surrounding areas Married Mr Bird ( possible Australia) Married as a widow 1881 in New Zealand to Thomas Gardiner Robinson she died 1929 NZ no parents named I think the clue lies in ELLA as a name. thanks Sandra in NZ
One member of my family was Robert Watson, a Lighthouse Keeper, born in New Lanark about 1830. He married Margaret Bertram in 1852 at Biggar and they were stationed at Ardnamurchan (1857), Hynish (1858-60) and Little Ross (1864) where their children were born. On 22 Feb 1864, he registered the birth of his 5th child Janet Watson born at Little Ross Lighthouse and it seems he died before the 1871 census as his wife was recorded as "Widow" then. I searched unsuccessfully for Robert Watson's death between 1864 and 1871 on the scotlandspeople website. I believe that the Scottish Lighthouse records are kept in the National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh, and if someone is visiting the Archives I would be most grateful if they looked for Robert Watson's records to determine the date and place of his death. Thankyou, John Johnston New Zealand
