They do seem to be on the Ancestry index for 1861. I think I have also found them in 1871 under SURTON. Thomas Snr was born Hertfordshire and Lucy was born Norfolk. Lots of children. By putting 'BURTON' in the 1981 search and also 'leather*' in Occupation I think I found Thomas in 1891 in Leven Street, but he has remarried to a Maria and knocked 5 years off his age. If this is all correct then it narrows down the hunt for his death cert - which should give the info you require (as far as it was known to the person registering the death). Hi, I am looking for information about Christina Buckley, born about 1747, near Edinburgh. She was married to Henery Tiresback, born about 1745, in Holland. Christina's descendants seem to be pretty well documented. I'm looking for her ancestors. Given her birth date, I know that this ois not much to ask! Randell Bennett
Hiya There's a good chance that John wasn't christened and that's why you can't find his birth/christening record. It may also be that the volume of OPR that his christening was recorded in has gone missing when the LDS photographed 'all' the OPRs. Does the 1861 & 71 census also state his birthplace as Edinburgh? good luck Excuse me butting in June ! Could it be they were Roman Catholic ? Although not of that faith I have found , on behalf of others , a number of pre 1855 christenings and marriages not shown in the OPR's being held at Scottish Catholic Archives , Drummond Place , Edinburgh. http://www.catholic-heritage.net/sca/ Andrew Nicol , the Archivist ,has been most helpful to me and many of my friends Good luck Margaret ! Dear Margaret, Have you tried to find a re-marriage? Be imaginative with spellings in the death index after 1855 and the best suggestion of all is look at her children's marriages. Trying to find burials or deaths before 1855 can be hit and miss. How many years have you been searching? Only 3? <grin> Best Wishes, Jane nr Edinburgh ----- Original Message ----- From: "MARGARET ALEXANDER" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 02, 2007 8:27 AM Subject: [SCT-EDINBURGH] New member >I have been trying for the last three years to find my husband's 2 x great >grandmother. I have been trying for the last three years to find my husband's 2 x great grandmother. Her name was Jane Vearty(Varty) and she married Robert Alexander (Solicitor) in July 1820 at St Andrew's, Edinburgh. They had at least three sons. I can find no trace of her on the 1841, 51 or 61 census. Robert died 1855 and she was mentioned on his death certificate but not listed as desceased. I believe she may have died somewhere between the birth of the third son in 1825 and 1841. Does anyone have any information they could share or any suggestions as to where to go next? Margaret Alexander
