Perhaps the following was a brother, uncle or cousin to your Robert or James: Alexander HERKES, born ca. 1749 at Gladsmuir, married Margaret BROWN (BROUN) 3 March 1774 Children included: Helen, Peter, Ann Son, Peter, b. 29 March 1776 at Gladsmuir, married Hellen BURNS, 20 June 1793 at Bolton.
