Thomas YOUNG b 1810 Channelkirk married Margaret SYMINGTON at Stow MLN in 1853. Margaret died in 1861 at Egerston ROX. In 1871 there appears a Robert YOUNG aged 21 in the 1871 census, listed as nephew of Mary COCKBURN ( m.s. SYMINGTON). In 1851 Margaret is single and there is no child by name Robert living with her. If Thomas YOUNG had been married before how would I know? If his wife had died would the children of a first marriage have lived with him? In 1861 the above Robert was not in the household, only children born subsequent to their marriage. I believe Thomas was son of Thomas YOUNG and Jean TURNER who had other children: Margaret, Jean, Betty, and Lillie, all born Channelkirk.
