    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Reading Fisch or M,film
    2. Evening list I have considered purchasing OPR on microfilm/fische for a while now having spent only a limited time reading them in less than perfect conditions while in Haddington library during a short stay there two years ago ..... (we stayed in Haddington not the Library) ..... I found them fascinating. Buying the film is one hurdle, having a reader is another, having space for a reader is the stopper. Our local library permit the use of their machines but they are not usually open when I have the time. Question........... have any of you got a film or fische and a scanner ? Have you tried scanning the film into your computer and manipulated the image in a graphics package? Did it work? If no one has tried this could SKS try and let me know how you get on? I believe that there are attachments for flat bed scanners to copy from photograph negatives but the nature of the text/ paper contrast of the fische may allow the scanner to do its job without additional hardware. My scanner comes with TEXT recognition software which has coped reasonably well with old maps. ( just a thought ). Nothing ventured !
