    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] David Wallace & Alison Reidpath 1748 Bolton
    2. Good evening If you have a few hours to spare read on and thank you if you make it to the bottom of the page without falling asleep. The earliest WALLACE I have a positive connection with is my G.G.G.G. grandfather WILLIAM WALLACE b circa 1756 Bolton. I believe his Father was DAVID WALLACE. DAVID WALLACE b 25 May 1721 Dunbar to ROBERT WALLACE & ELSPITH FINDLAY ( FINLAW ) ALISON REIDPATH b 18 Sept. 1724 Greenlaw to ALEXANDER REDPATH & ANN GILLILAND DAVID WALLACE m ALISON REIDPATH 23 June 1748 Bolton David is noted as Gardener at NewHall in the old parish records on some of the baptism entries for his children. The web site OLD-MAPS.Co.UK shows an 1856 map with NewHall having a formal garden layout and "monument". However the only evidence today is a wooded area with a stream called Newhall Beck. David and Allison do not appear to have used the accepted "naming pattern" for their children although the use of JAMES for the first born son may have been seen as "traditional" as it occurs in so many of the first born males back through the family. Non of DAVID'S siblings use the "naming" rule either. Issue of David and Alison all in the Parish of Yester except Janet. JAMES b 1749 GEORGE b 1750 JANET b 1761 HUGH b 1754 WILLIAM b 20 Feb. 1756 witness PATRICK YULE and PATRICK COCKBURN MARGARET b 1759 JANET b 1761 Humbie It was/is only by cross-referencing all the WILLIAM births of the correct age with the connection to both a GEORGE and a JOHN (Wallace witnesses to the two later daughters of the above William) in their fathers immediate family that I am now 80% convinced this is the correct line to follow after building a database of all WALLACE births and marriages in Eastlothian and Berwick. HOWEVER I keep coming back to this family as I have no 100% proof that I have followed the correct path other than the " coincidence" of birth dates, names and location. I have searched later generations of Wallace in the area for instances of first born David's and second born Allison's with little success.Only finding an ALISON born 29/03/1761 to DAVID's contemporary a WILLIAM WALLACE and JANET BATHGATE in SALTON. This naming co-insides with the naming of David and Allison's JANET the same year. Could it be yet another coincidence or did the two couples know each other. After all that the questions I need help with ( apart from the meaning of life and everything ) are 1) Anyone have any records of a WILLIAM WALLACE born to a WILLIAM WALLACE & JANET MENNINS Dirleton circa 1750 to 60 ? 2) Ditto for WILLIAM WALLACE & JANET BATHGATE Salton circa 1750 to 60 ? 3) Any mortcloth records Dirleton, Bolton,Humbie of a DAVID WALLACE or ALISON WALLACE nee REDPATH circa 1777 to 1790? I would welcome any help, advice , comments Best regards George Wallace
