I now know that the Mary Darling was mentioned in what must have been the Kirk Session Records, " lying in scandal since August 1842." In Stow 24 Dec 1842, she " confessed that she had brought forth a child in fornication, with David Dodds in the month of August 1842 " her father was James Darling . David Dodds, who had previously implied to James that " he had been guilty of fornication with Mary, & the child now lately born, by her, was his, at the same time, refused to achknowledge himself the father of said child. " At this time we do not know who the child is. But, we do know, that David Dodds did not show with his family in 1851 census, with the comment that his wife, ( Helen Dods ( m.s. Lockie ), " was deserted by her husband, supported by the Parish Board " David Dod(d)s & Helen Lockie, are the line that a few of us are from. But, we do not know what became of David Dodds. ( probably chased away by the angry father , James.) We can only assume that it was the same David.
