Maisie asked, " Can anyone elaborate on the pottery industry in Prestonpans?" Hi Maisie, "Prestonpans in Old Picture Postcards" says that a tradition of wheel thrown-pottery existed as far back as the thirteenth century in East Lothian. Regarding Prestonpans- "The potteries were famous for brown teapots, earthenware pipes and 'sanitary ware', but they also made decorative figurines and fine china tableware, now keenly sought by collectors. One interesting product was the disposable pie-dish, sold with the pie, an early break-through for the throw-away society." Pam Hamlyn New Zealand
