    2. Keith
    3. Hello, I'm Keith Hayward; I'm from Brisbane, Australia and also new to the list. I am posting my surname interests in the hope that someone else is researching them. Part of my family migrated to Australia from Prestonpans in the 1870's. The names I'm interested in are Smith and Young. GGG/Grandfather was Peter Young Smith who married Crespina Crowden. His parents were Mathew Smith and Janet Young. Thanks

    3. I am wondering if anyone is researching the BERTRAM family from East Lothian. I am looking for my Grandfather's first wife and am only assuming that as he was from Ormiston that his wife would have been also. His name was David Thomson AMOS and the information I have from the back of a photograph of her is: Jessie Craig Bertram Amos died at Morningside, Lanarkshire, Scotland August 30, 1915 age 30 They were living in Lanarkshire as there was work in the coal mines over there. Sound familiar to anyone? Bev Allen Langley, BC Canada

    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] New Lister seeking KING
    2. Gilbert HALL
    3. Hello, I am new to this list and would like to name my family connections. I am descended from a large family of KING in East Lothian & Berwickshire. Our earliest proven record is from John KING, a Soldier/Shoemaker in the Royall Regiment of Foot, who married Elizabeth TRUNCH in 1748 in Coldingham. One of John & Elizabeth's sons, Hugh married Agnes WHITE in 1779 at Cockburnspath and Robert was born in 1793. My Great grandmother Isabel KING was the ninth of ten daughters to Robert KING and Elizabeth COOPER, who moved to Wooler, Northumberland between 1821 and 1833. Family lore says that Robert was a young drummer boy at the Battle of Corunna. I am still looking for the proof. At last New Year I was contacted by an Andy KING, having seen my entry on the GENUKI East Lothian Names List. We are fourth cousins once removed, our common ancestors being Hugh and Agnes above. We are seeking to find the birth/baptism of John, born approx. 1723, we believe. I am at present going through the OPR film for Coldingham at my local FHC. Shoemaker is the common trade in the family along with the name Hugh. There are KING families to this day in East Lothian and Midlothian. Anyone else out there connected? Regards, Gil. Hall. 3. I have John KING . I am very sure, that he is the John KING born Gladsmuir, Bap. October 1770 the parents were, John KING a ccccoal miner, & Janet DUNCAN, witnesses James DUNCAN & George Duncan coal miners. John KING & Janet DUNCAN were marr. August 1766 Gladsmuir. The known children, Baptisms, were Agnes 1768; John 1770; George 1774; Helen 1777; Marrion 1780; Janet 1784; John junior also a collier, married Janet WILSON April 1791, following an irregular marr. & they are my line. I found many KING in the Parish records film, but by 1841, there did not seem to be many in the 1841 or, 1851 census, of Gladsmuir, or Pencaitland. Pencaitland being where my King family appeared after the Bap of the children. I would also like contact with family still in the East Lothian area, & anyone who is researching the family.
