    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] IGI batch numbers
    2. Evening A posting on the Lanarkshire list (yes there are other lists out there;-)) put words to something I had noticed about searches performed using the batch number system courtesy of Hugh Wallis. I may be stating the obvious if so please excuse my naivety, I welcome your insights. The lister stated that doing a "blanket"search of the parishes in Lanarkshire the results all came up with female christenings. I had done a similar search of the Haddingtonshire parishes for WALLACE events and had drawn the same conclusion. Was the "controlled" extraction restricted to the female births and male marriages to try to capture the families using the minimum number of searches/records? I have my own WALLACE listings for Haddington drawn from various sources and compared a search from the IGI list and my own. Several families show missing males which would have stopped the researcher who only use the IGI dead in their branches :-). e.g. One of the family groups was WILLIAM WALLACE & JANET RENTON issue according to IGI search HELEN 16 MAR 1778 Saltoun JANET 27AUG 1786 Haddington MARGARET 15MAR 1789 Haddington MARTHA MATILDA 23 NOV 1791 Dirleton Add the following from Origins search WILLIAM 9 APR 1780 Bolton THOMAS 17 FEB 1782 Bolton WILLIAM 18 JUL 1784 Gladsmuir We all know the IGI is incomplete but if the omission of male birth/christening records from the extraction was a deliberate policy, the publication of this fact would save many researchers time and effort.

    3. Hi the L.D.S name extractions had 3 ways of doing this they may do all the marriages of a parish or female chr start the batch number with a K & for males its a J or otherway around . So its a matter of putting the K, J or M. On the O.P.R all christenings for the church of scotland are there. regards Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, 4 April 2002 5:04 AM Subject: [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] IGI batch numbers > Evening > A posting on the Lanarkshire list (yes there are other lists out there;-)) > put words to something I had noticed about searches performed using the batch > number system courtesy of Hugh Wallis.
