    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] marriages
    2. Hello Can anyone tell me if there could possibly be 2 listings for the marriage of the same people?   I have a date of 24 Nov. 1807 in Yester , East Lothian,  and Dec. 5, 1807 in Edinburgh Parish.  The names are the same , George Moodie and Jane/Jean Gray.  Could it be that they were married first where he lived and then went to her home and were married a second time in Midlothian?   Has anyone ever heard of this happening?  I was wondering if it would be because of a religious difference. edie ==== SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN Mailing

    3. Hi Edie, you will find that they had to have their banns read in their home parish & you may find the earlier date is when they proclaimed to marry or the banns were 1st read the second date could be the actual marriage date. The Vicars were not required to write in the Parish records the exact date of marriage, so some dates are the proclamation date only & when the banns were called.
