They are a fund of information on all aspects of the parish life and can be of great help to the family and local historian alike. Many of the Session Clerks kept their own records , at the back of the volume, relating to christenings, marriages, deaths and the Mort Cloth ,( all the things the church could make income out of !) plus items of interest that might have ocurred in relation to the church and congregation. Where the source for research is a coastal parish often the loss of local fishing vessels and their crews are mentioned - very helpful in the days before registration Regards. John. John D. Stevenson, Trinity Research Services, Scottish Maritime History Research. Edinburgh.
