As i hadn't known of it until I found out that my great-grandmother was called Janet Pow Johnston and she lived in the Tranent area and married John McKenzie in 1884. I wonder if by some chance that your James Pow and my great-grandmother are in somehow related? I will be getting a copy of her marriage certificate soon and that will show me who her parents were. I'll keep you posted if it looks good.
