I was researching KING, & the 1851 Census for Pencaitland, showed Janet King unmarried, a laundress age 53 yrs., ( also Janet her widowed Mother as head, age 82 years, ) with George PRYDE Grandson, age 22 yrs coal miner, & John King Grandson 14 yrs.. I had no Bap. for Janet junior, & did not know if she was one of my King family, so I carried on noting the KING & PRI(Y)DE names when ever I saw them, until I found the final link, which was the death Regd., for Janet King showing her parents as John King, & Janet maiden name Wilson. The info' came from either the films of the Scottish Civil Registrations from the LDS, & I think the Death of Janet was transcribed from the Death Regd., when I was in Edinburgh, as I was then able to trawl through each year, to find the death of Janet junior. here is George PRIDE; Gladsmuir Parish, 1855, Pauper, formally a Miner, died Penston, age 91 yrs. Born Cranston lived 50 yrs in Gladsmuir. Children; James deceased age 64 ( hard to read, but was either 1848 or 1868, ) Janet 40 yrs dec. 1831; Agnes 63 yrs; William 61 yrs ;Abraham dec. 3 months 1800; Isabella 55yrs; Mary 53 yrs. Father James Pride , coal miner, mother Agnes Cleland George married; 1. Isabella Moffat dec. 2. Jean Brown Dec. Buried Gladsmuir, & William Pride son informant. I do not seem to have noted either the Registration number, or the date of death, must have been in a hurry. ( 91 years old, was really something for those days, especially for a coal miner. ) Mary New Zealand
