    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Elizabeth PEFFERS and Patrick LAFFERTY
    2. Walt Sammis
    3. Hi everyone, I'm hoping for a brick wall breaker for a very tough problem. I am searching high and low for the marriage of Elizabeth PEFFERS and Patrick (also known as Peter) LAFFERTY, married between 1820-1833, probably in Haddingtonshire or Edinburgh. Elizabeth was Church of Scotland and Patrick was Roman Catholic so I think the banns were probably posted in a Church of Scotland church and the marriage was probably in a Catholic church because they baptized their children as Catholics. I have searched the Catholic registers for Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and Paisley plus the IGI, no luck. Elizabeth PEFFERS was born 9 May 1800 and baptized 18 May 1800 in Haddington, the daughter of Robert PEFFERS and Mary COALSTONE. She married Patrick LAFFERTY between 1820 and 1833, place unknown. They had at least four children, (1) Helen LAFFERTY b. 1831-1832, m. unknown, d. unknown, places unknown (2) Peter LAFFERTY b. 1 Dec 1833 in Edinburgh, m. 5 Nov 1859 in Yester, East Lothian d. 28 March 1910 in Kirkcudbright, Crimean War veteran (3) James LAFFERTY b. 21 Nov 1835 d. 2 July 1840, both in Edinburgh (4) Robert LAFFERTY b. 3 April 1838 d. 21 June 1840, both in Edinburgh. Patrick LAFFERTY died 30 Oct 1838 in Edinburgh. Elizabeth married Andrew BAXTER on 14 Feb 1846 in Edinburgh, was living in Samuelston, Gladsmuir, East Lothian in the 1851 census, and died in "Caldsey", East Lothian (Cauldshiel in Bolton?) on 5 July 1856. Elizabeth's father lived at Seggarsdean, near Haddington, for many years. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Walt Sammis.

    2. Hello list. My apologies for sending this to so many overlapping lists. Some short time ago there was a message to one of the lists i subcribe to about NOTMANS in Russia. I thought that i had saved it but cannot find it. I think i have searched all the lists but still cannot find it . If the originator of the message could contact me or if any one has it can they let me have a copy or the details of where i should have searched for it i would be much obliged. E-mail address gives a clue as to why i should have been more careful with it! Colin

    3. . Dalmeny is in West Lothian. Good evening Mary et al, Correction Dalmeny is in the City of Edinburgh and has been since the boundary re-organisation of 1975. It is subject to the by laws of the City and the householders pay their council tax to the City of Edinburgh Council. Previously Dalmeny was in Linlithgowshire and then West Lothian. Regards. John. 3. Hi Janette, All of Tranent & Prestonpans are on the database now, I believe, but would suggest you wait for another week before going there as all the finished ELN 1841 parishes are going to be reloaded in a few days. We had to "redo" some work and the new data will be correct. - I hope!! 3. Hello John Do you know where I can go to look at the records of the Dalmeny Parish. I have been unable to find any birth records for my ggrandfather , his wife and 9 children. They were all born in [Edinburgh] but I think I may find them in the parish records as that is where the parents got married .although the copy of their mariage cert. gives his name as ROBERT WILSON , his parents as DAVID WILSON AND MARGARET WILSON MS NEILSON. yet they we BUCHANANS. I know that it must be their cert. as her mother is EUPHEMIA KNIGHT MS SCARTH. fathers name is James yet I have newspaper cutting which calls him Captain Philip Knight. I also know that they the family have given wrong dates and names at times ,ggfather had taken 17 years to report death of his wife and only because he wanted to remarry , which I still dont know if he did. I will be grateful for any help. Thank you Mary Shearar ----- Original Message ----- From: "John D.
