    3. Hi all, I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a 1851 census lookup for Janet Stoddart and/or Christian Smith in Macmerry in Gladsmuir. Janet should be about 19 or 20, Christian about 50. They were both there in 1841 and Janet is recorded as being from there at the time of her marriage in 1857 Regards Liz Hardie

    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Lothians FHS - online bookshop
    2. John Dods
    3. Hi list, a year ago, I posted a message about my gggg grandfather, Peter DODS (1751-1826) and my ggg gf, William DODS (1795-1873), who were both Provost's of Haddington. I was wanting to know if there was a list of the Provost's. I got an answer, there was a list in "Street Biographies of Royal Burgh of Haddington", published by the Lothians FHS. I looked them up and unfortunely for a kiwi like me, the only way get a copy was to get a bank draft for eight pounds something, and pay the NZ bank $13 in feesplus $2 in postage, making the book cost three times it's shelf price. I asked for a look up in the book on the list, but no responce. A year has past & I am in the process of following up things that have not progressed. I do a google search on the book title, & low & behold I find the LFHS now have an overseas freindly online bookshop, so I intend to order the book when the budget premits. However as I was not previously aware of the online shop, I thought others on the list might like to know as well. Here is link http://www.lothiansfhs.org.uk/view.php?v=publications just don't go buying up all the copies before I get my order away. lol. John Dods Wellington, New ZEaland

    2. Bruce McArthur
    3. Hi All One family in my tree emigrated together in 1859 to the USA as part of a sort of Mormon Package deal. They were from Whittingham Par in East Lothian and their names were James McCarter, his wife Elizabeth Dickson and three of their children, Agnes, John Dickson and Elizabeth. Before long the three children were all married and produced 41 children in the Salt Lake City area, 32 of whom survived infancy. By my reckoning this means I may have as many as 15,000 living relatives in the USA today. Are you one of them? The family feature heavily in the Ancestral file and in various trees I have seen on Rootsweb, Gencircles etc. James McCarter is my first cousin 4 times removed! cheers Bruce McArthur Newcastle upon Tyne England

    3. Hello, everyone, Apologies if you see this more than once. I am "elnalexjoe" and folk who know me on these lists will know me as Eileen in Hampshire. They will also know that I would not send any request for authentication with any "malice aforethought". I will explain to you what I think has happened. I downloaded a free trial spam blocking programme from the internet but it was too time consuming to set it all up so I decided to delete it completely from my computer. I have just checked again this morning and it is not listed in my programmes so as far as I am concerned it is no longer there. Why all these messages have been sent out to everyone in my address book - I just do not know as I have not activated anything and the programme does not exist on my computer, well, not that I can see. Hopefully, it will not happen again - or perhaps someone very knowledgeable about computers may be able to tell me where this "deleted" programme may perhaps be lurking on my machine. I am sorry that some folk seem to have been upset by this but I did smile as one of the messages to someone in my address book was responded to by a programme which does exactly the same thing! Hopefully, the show is now over, Thanks, Eileen in Hampshire. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!
