.Hello Robert I have a Margaret DISHINGTON who married William Tait on 11/10/1751 at Saltoun. I don't have a Helen GIBSON, but I do have a Jean GIBSON who married Robert Nisbet at North Berwick on 16/10/1731. Both of these families are my 5 x g-grandparents. Thomas Sinclair, probably from Waas (Walls) Shetland, according to the World War One Roll of Honour, captain of Salvesens vessel s.s. Neko, and torpedoed 14:03:1917 on s.s. Coronda. Later on he seems to have been instrumental in recruiting Shetlanders to the Antarctic whaling, but had to leave Salvesens following a dispute with the colonial office. An article appears in the Shetland News, c.1921 about him. He was probably based in the Leith/Edinburgh area. Angus Johnson, Shetland Archives. [email protected] [email protected]

Dear Grant: I was looking thorugh the surname list of those that have already registered for DNA testing. I find one with a Ross Surname interest. I have copied both the Clan Ross mailing list and the Ross surname mailing list to see if there is any interest in more Ross descendants to start testing or if there is already a group underway. There is a lot of work being done on getting data to convert the marker and allele results from one lab to be compatible with scores from another lab. So in that case, it wouldn't matter which Lab does the work. We chose GeneTree due to the higher number of markers and the specific markers used seemed to be in line with the markers that would be able to identify the Scottish ancestry;. As you know the 4 main groups in Scottish ancestry ( Celts, Picts etc) had unique markers and we tried to take that into consideration. In Addition, Genetree is affilliated with Relative Genetics and the BYU study so I felt that this gave access to a wider range of prospective matches in Scottish Clans. That was also one reason, that we encouraged the study of the MtDNA ( females) so that this data could also contribute to possible relationships between the Clans &Families. Hope this answeres your questions. Does anyone recognise a connection to Jane BRASH who married John SMITH, probably Glasgow c.1870. Their children were John, James & Richard. John & James both married Agnes (presumably different ones) and produced offspring. Jane must have died early on, as John then married Isabella CUTHBERTSON; they also produced offspring.
