Carol, Thank you for that, I am wondering if you may be able to help with one other piece of information. I am now really confused. I notice it says unmarried next to Euphemias name. Is that a standard notation, if she was widowed would it say widowed. I am beginning to think that her relationship with David may have been commonlaw marriage. Are there any other Jaffreys in Prestonkirk at that time. Also, the 6/19 Crauchie is there a specific meaning behind that. Hi List Does anybody out there have the name DAVIE in their research? I still have a huge brickwall with my GGGrandfather, James DAVIE who married Elizabeth HALLIDAY in Greenock, Renfrewshire in1816. She was born in 1783 so I assume he was born pre-1783. He is not listed on the 1841 Greenock Census and in 1851 she is listed as a widow. I had somebody search for his death, no records. He is not mentioned in any Monumental Inscriptions and is not buried with Elizabeth. He could have been born/died/buried anywhere in Scotland. He is mentioned in the Pigot's Directory for Greenock in the 1830's as a "working Silversmith/Goldsmith" in Greenock. There is a Thomas DAVIE, Silversmith listed in Greenock in the 1830's too, perhaps they were father/brother, but no birth/death/burial records for him either - anywhere - so I am stuck! I found a listing for a William DAVIE, Silversmith from Edinburgh and some of his (and Thomas Davie's) silverware is mentioned on Antique Silver sites. Both had "Hallmarks" although my James Davie didn't, it seems. I had been waiting for the Wills site to arrive online - but no sign of a Will for James, Thomas (or William) DAVIE. Even the Sasines of Renfrewshire didn't turn up anything for James or Thomas DAVIE. Help!!!! The children of Alexander were John age 7 in 1881, William 6 in 1881, Charles 4 in 1881, Elizabeth 2 in 1881, born Melrose, Roxburghshire; Georgina 1 in 1881 born Lauder Berwickshire. I suppose the LEES is a husband of one of the 2 known in 1881 daughters.
