Looking for SKEAD, SKED and SIMPSON in Dunbar 1770s to 1850s - can anyone please tell me what resources are available or make any recommendations I have the 1881 census and the other place I looked was the reel on deaths for Dunbar for the independent church. Did find two babies who died in the 1820 era. That was some years ago so wondering what might be about now. Thanks regards Marg O'Leary Port Stephens, NSW ______________________________________ Scanned and protected by Inflex http://pldaniels.com/inflex

David THOMSON and Magdalene MORTON were my 2x great grandparents. David was born about 1808 in HADDINGTON, possible parents David Thomson and Janet Cummings. Magdalene Morton was born at ATHELSTANEFORD in 1804. David Thomson died 1850, Magdalene died in 1892, both in Haddington. David and Magdalene had 7 children, Margaret 1836, Janet 1838, Magdalene 1840, David 1844 (my great grandfather), Mary 1845, Euphemia 1847 and John 1849. Anyone out there with connections to this family? Would be happy to exchange details. Peter
William ROBERTSON and Sarah LEE were my 2x great grandparents. William was born in TRANENT in 1811, parents John ROBERTSON and Janet SWAN. Sarah LEE was born 1819 in Cowlay, Oxford. William and Sarah settled in DALKEITH where William was a Master Tailor and Clothier. She died 1860, he died 1890. They had at least 10 children: Janet 1838, Jane 1839, William 1840, Richard 1844, Mary 1846, Margaret Bow 1848 (my great grandmother), Sarah Ann 1850, Catherine 1854, Elizabeth 1855 and Isabella Esther 1858. Anyone out there with connection to this family? Would be happy to exchange details. Peter
Hi Carol, Had a look for your BARRIEs. The only Haddington birth showing in East Lothian is for Robert, born Haddington, age 35 a Bathmaker, wife Agnes, age 36 and son David, age 8. Would that be the correct family? Could your relations moved south? Your Thomas MOFFAT was easier to find. His birthplace is given as Prestonkirk, age 42, Head, Joiner, wife Marharet MOFFAT, age 41, born Crailing, Roxburgh, Scotland. Also son Alexander MOFFAT, age 15, born Edinburgh. Their address in 1881 was 16 Panmure Place, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Edinburgh. Hope this is of some help. Hi Liz, 1st of all the book is made up from the 1851 census of Prestonkirk and then Diane and co have researched BDM's of lots of the community 6/19 refers to the enumeration district and page no (I think!!) Usually the status of the woman of a head is widow, so it is interesting that this one says unmarried. The only other little snippet that I didn't put in is that for the column other details she has put f*2/2 David Hardie. The * means that this is a likely person 2/2 refers to another family earlier in the book These are those details David HARDIE h 1851 married farmer 301 acres b Salen, Kinglassie Fife 1798 father John mother Isabel COUSIN d P/K 1856 buried P/K Cemetery Married Gladsmuir 1833 Christian Black b Kinglassie 1810 father John BLACK mother Catherine INGLIS Children Catherine 1834 Isabella 1838 Christiana 1843 Joseph 1846 Ann 1848 There was one little snippet in the Conclusions "Contrary to what is thought sometimes to be Victorian attitudes, unmarried Prestonkirk mothers and their children were clearly not abandoned or cast out. Children lived in the parish with their natural families, usually their mother." (McNicoll, p 4) You would have to lookup in the parish registers or the like to find out the "facts" (ha ha), it would also be wise to check the 1851 census for yourself to confirm the accuracy of these details, I have found them to be OK so far, but one never knows... There are a few other JAFFREYs but I will have to look those up a little later as my little people are calling, but I will not forget.... ----- Original Message ----- From: Liz Hardie <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 2:03 PM Subject: RE: [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Re Euphemia Jaffrey > Carol, > > Thank you for that, I am wondering if you may be able to help with one > other piece of information. Usually the status of the woman of a head is widow, so it is interesting that this one says unmarried.
