hello list, I found this site very interesting and did find someone who may be my ancestor James LAING buried in 1753 he was described as stanger in the list. does this mean he lived outside of Dunbar or that he was born outside Dunbar. He was the only Laing on the list so I suppose this means that the Laing's were not originally from Dunbar. I am looking for Hall Laing was described as a native of Dunbar he married in Liverpool in 1799 but this James Laing may have been related, we do have a lot of James Laing's in the family. I have not yet been able to find anything concerning the Birth of Hall or names of his parents. Can anyone help with this Thank Alison Laing FORBES (now Lafon) France

Dear Listers, I am wondering if someone could do a 1841 & 1861 census lookup for me. I am looking for Euphemia Jaffray who was located in Crauchie, Prestonkirk in 1851. I do not have an address for the 1851 census, but I do have a reference (6/19 Crauchie). She resided in the area in 1833, so I am assuming she didn't move. Dear Listers I am wondering whether anyone can tell me anything about these properties. My relatives lived at the Market St residence in 1881, but had previously been tenant farmers in Prestonkirk from 1830 to just after 1871. I am wondering whether these properties have been redeveloped, and if not if some can take a happy snap of them for me, or alternatively fill me in a little more about the history of the buildings. I hope some day soon I will get to Scotland so I can visit these buildings, and the family farm (Beil Estate, Marklemains, Prestonkirk) Liz Hardie "Let us look ahead and live a life without regret..."

Hi, Were you aware this is available online via Scots Online, an excellent service. It will cost you 6 pounds for 30 pages of downloads in a 24 day period, so you need to make sure you have sufficient queries. The Scots BDM, 1891 & 1901 census are also on the same system, it can be found at http://www.scotsorigins.com/ Regards Liz Hardie "Let us look ahead and live a life without regret..." -----Original Message----- From: helen carter [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, 3 June 2002 6:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] 1881 census Hello Could someone please lookup a family for me on the 1881 census BAXTER.
