    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] LEITCH, LUMSDEN
    2. Linda R. Wilson
    3. Doug, I have some LUMSDEN names loosely connected w/ my family. I have seen the name spelled variously as LUMSDEN and LUMSDALE in the OPR's for Prestonpans. Robert LUMSDEN married Elspeth PRIDE, who I believe to be the sister of my 8g-grandfather James PRIDE. Robert and Elspeth had the following LUMSDEN offspring, all christened (see dates below) in Prestonpans: Isabel, chr Sept 18, 1808 Christian, chr January 29, 1710 Katherine, chr May 22, 1713 Elizabeth, chr April 27, 1715 Janet, chr June 3, 1719 Robert, chr July 17, 1720 Are any of these connected to you? Linda from NC

    2. Linda R. Wilson
    3. Carol, I saw your posting of interests. Although I can't tie in w/ the names you listed, I wonder if you have any MOFFATS and etc further back. My line traces back to Johne MOFFAT, b 1609 in Tranent, and Janet DOWGALL. These 2 had 6 children, including my direct ancestor James MOFFAT, who m Janet KAIDGLEY (notice the similarity in spelling to you KEDGLIE. I've also seen Janet's spelled as CAIDGLEY.) Janet was the daughter of James KAIDGLEY and Marion CAIRNE. By the 1700's, most of my direct line had re-located to the Midlothian area. Linda from NC

    3. Hello Gil First thing that came to mind when I read the word Perflit was another similar word - Purfleet. Its a place somewhere south or south east England. The different accent could account for spelling. OR have I just muddied the waters!! 1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Good news -- 1861 census
    2. I have just received word from HMSO in Edinburgh that the webmaster of the East Lothian GenWeb project has been granted permission to publish transcripts of the 1861 census for East Lothian parishes on the Internet. As soon as the document is signed and returned by post, we will be working on getting the first three parishes -- Aberlady, Athelstaneford, and Bolton -- online. This was something that was initiated almost two years ago after a very kind woman in Canada offered to share her transcripts with us. Thanks so much for your patience and hopefully by the end of the summer we'll have some results. Will keep the list posted! Jill Clark listowner, SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN PS: Thanks for the wonderful, almost-overwhelming response to the recent surname "roll call." Have a restful and fruitful (genealogical-speaking) summer . . . or winter, if you are "down under." ;)

    3. Hi Mary, Your mention of Doughtie rings a bell. I haven't done any real work on it but I'm told that James Somerville & Mary Orkney had a daughter Margaret who married a Doughty/Doughtie (given name unknown). They had David, William, James, Thomas and Robert. I've really only looked at the LDS site and so I haven't found a marriage date but I would imagine it was circa 1820. There are possibilities for marriages of the children in East Lothian towns. Would like to hear if you've stumbled across my names during your research.
