I visited Scotland last year and saw how Innerwick, Oldhamstocks and Cocksburn Path related to each other. What has me excited is your Robertson family. Do you have a John Robertson who married Isabella Bishop (of Oldhamstocks) in Innerwick 1791? I found a headstone for her and their daughter Isabell in Innerwick churchyard, but not him, and haven't sorted out his ancestry yet. They also had a daughter Ann who married Thomas Bennet of Edinburgh. The Bishop family was a large one. I am descended from both Isabella (and John Robertson) and the youngest, Margaret (and John Forrest). Although my query said Oldhamstocks, from the headstones I found in Innerwick it would seem as though the family was from there, with just one son (my gggwhatever) farming in the neighbouring parish of Oldhamstocks. Hi Jim, Its nice to hear that the book on E.Lothian really exists! I saw it somewhere on the web last year, tried to buy it, heard from the publisher,, answered and then never heard again, despite many messages being sent. Something to do with the author they said. Do you know where I can buy it please? regards, Yvonne Morrow Brisbane

SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN-L@rootsweb.com Re: Thomas Anderson married Euphemia (aka Elizabeth/Elsbeth)Gourlay in 1824 in Edinburgh. Their son Robert married Margaret Donat (aka Donnit/Dunnit) in Prestonkirk in 1842. Is there anyone else researching Anderson/Donat/Gourlay families in East Lothian. I would appreciate any help I can get. Hello from San Jose, California! Have you seen the book 'Prestonkirk: The People of 1851" by Diane D McNicoll? A very nice woman with a beautiful, warm home. She invited my fiance' and I in for tea one afternoon 2 years ago and shared a lot of information about her research in the area. There is an extensive amount of detailed information in her book on all the people you listed. Robert Gourlay Anderson is the household head in Traprain in 1851. born 1820(circa) married Margaret Donnet (Donat ) 1842 ( she born Prestonkirk 1822 ) Robert's children are listed ( page 78 # 3/4 ) etc............ More info on page 154 5/64 ie: Thomas Anderson living in Linton West, his birth info, grandchildren, etc..... I have Anderson's in my line, but I only have info back in the 1700's and have not made a connection to the 1800's where you are looking :-( Regards, Jim Walker scotlandforever7@aol.com http://hometown.aol.com/scotlandforever7/myhomepage/profile.html http://www.electricscotland.com/tourist/tours/tour26.htm Researching: Walker, McCleod, Anderson, Bauer, Barrie, Begbie, Black, Blakie, Blyth, Bolton, Bowers, Brown, Brydon, Clark, Clemente, Cockburn, Crawford, D algleish, Davidson, Daniels, Denham, Denholm, Douglas, Edington, Idington, F oggo, Glasgow, Goodal, Grieve, Guyler, Haworth, Henderson, Hogg, Hope, Hunter, J ohnstone, Kinnaird, Logan, Lorimer, MacCalley, Mackadam, McFadden, McLeish, McMorran, Miller, Olson, Paulos, Peffers, Pendridge, Pennycuik, Pow, Proudfoot, R ichardson, Scott, Sligo, Storie, Sweet, Thompson, Watt, Wright, Yelineck.... The Andersons & Gourlays I have in my line are both Fife based. It is worth bearing in mind that there was a lot more traffic across the Forth of Forth in those days and so Fife and East Lothian were significantly "closer" than they are now that you have to trek all the way round by the bridge. Hi, I have a Catherine Drummond Hodge who married a James Gourley in Aberdalgie (Perth) possibly 1892. She died at 24 Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1930. They had at least one child - James. She was born about 1865. I have no dates for him. That's all I have on the Gourley line I'm afraid. (Plenty more on the Hodges though) Regards Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: <Scotslil@aol.com> To: <SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN-L@ROOTSWEB.COM> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 5:14 PM Subject: [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Anderson/Donat/Gourlay in East Lothian > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Anderson/Donat/Gourlay > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeC.2ACI/1176 > > Message Board Post: > > Thomas Anderson married Euphemia (aka Elizabeth/Elsbeth)Gourlay in 1824 in Edinburgh.
