For instance what county? ie Antrim, Leitrim, Londonderry, Donegal etc...Do you know whether they migrated through New York or New Brunswick or Nova Scotia? Thomas Quinney was born in the parish of Whitekirk on 27th January 1807, the son of John Quinney and Janet Jackson. John Quinney came to East Lothian from Essex, England as an enlisted soldier with the Essex Light Dragoons. They were on their way to quell the rebellion in Ireland. He came back to East Lothian, married Janet Jackson and settled in North Berwick. Thomas Quinney also joined the Army at the age of 20. He went to India with the East India Company Regiment. In 1853, having retired from the Army, he went to live in Glasgow and wrote a marvellous book about his India experiences: "Sketches of a Soldier's Life in India". This book is in the British Library (London); the Bodleian Library (Oxford) and the National Library of Scotland (Edinburgh). I know much about the Quinneys but very little about Janet JACKSON of North Berwick. Does anyone know of the Jacksons of East Lothian? Thomas Quinney is my wife's great-great grandfather. He was a Congregational minister in Elgin, Scotland for 46 years, retiring two years before his death in 1855 at 74 years of age. He was married in the mid 1820s to a Catherine Miller from ?. Suspect he was born in or near Isle of Barra - had brothers Norman, Angus and James, all of whom emigrated to Cape Breton, and other siblings. Looking for parernts and birthplace of Neil, as well as any other info available, including date and place of marriage. I do not think that Neil and Catherine had any children. Put 1837 online into Google. You can search by year and quarter for a fee. It works, although a tad tedious. Another co that will do the lookup for you and send a cert is researchinuk@aol.com.
