    1. [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Barber/Barbour
    2. Can any kind person please help me to confirm a link in my tree as I worry I may have followed a wrong line. My tree is right as far back as John Barber (b. 1785 Ormiston) who married Margaret Longlands (b 1785 Humble) At Tranent 17.6.1808 I have John’s parents as John Barber (1756 Tranent) and Jean Ogilvie (1752 Tranent) who married gladmuir 1783 John (1785) is the only child I can find for this couple. Did Jean die young? I cannot find a death for her.( There is one of the right age St Cuthberts, Edinburgh but seems unlikely) I believe John (1756) is buried at Tranent 4.11.1836 age 82 but as there are others of the same name I cannot be sure If I am on the right track it goes back to Alexander (1713 Edin) and Janet Brotherton m Tranent and before that William (abt 1680) and Margaret Ewan(1679) m. Old Machar, Aberdeen Regards, Katherine

    3. Hi all Is anyone looking for JAMES DOUGLAS born Tranent in 1837? (His father's name is given as David on death indexes, no mother recorded) I am a volunteer at the Orange FHS and was at the local cemetery photographing headstones yesterday. I found a rather impressive stone for the above gentleman. If he is connected to anyone on the list then I am happy to forward on copies of the photographs. Kind regards Sharon Orange NSW Australia

    3. A relative of my wife who lives in BC Canada has found the following in his grandmother's effects.  She left England at the age of 3 in 1905 to move to Ontario and after a long period to Alberta.  He wondered how she came by it and if there was a familial connection. It is a "First Communion Card 'issued' by the Prestonkirk Parish Church on 4th May 1890 to Thomas Bruce TAIT who was born in Dunbar 2nd Oct 1870".. I have been able to find quite a bit about TBT from Ancestry including the censuses till 1901 and have also his marriage in 1899 to Mar Ann CHALMERS. Did they have any children?  Did they migrate to Canada, if so when?  Anything that would help please. Thanks Mike Kawerau 3127 NZ casofilia@xtra.co.nz

    3. To Tricia, Lynne and Margaret Thank you for sorting out my 1851 census and for taking the time to help me. I should have been a bit more "inventive" when looking for the name. Bothwick instead of Borthwick stumped me. I have details of the 1841 and 1861 census. The grand children on the 1861 census belonged to Marys other son William who after his wife Agnes Pratt died left his children with his mother and went over the border to Bishopwearmouth Durham. He remarried to the widow of the people he was lodging with. His children never went to live with him. Thanks again Robert Gibson In the suburbs of Melbourne Aus.

    1. Re: [SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN] Henderson James
    2. Dinah, if you look on Family Search you will see there are many James Hendersons. The first two are as follows: Wm. Henderson, Christened Dunbar E. Lothian on 16 December 1759. Father William H. and mother Elspeth PURVES. William Henderson, Christened 10 October 1756 at Innerwick, East Lothian. Father William H. and mother Christian Neilson. They are possibly in the right timescale for joining the army in 1775. I suggest you check the list on Family Search. Sheila.
