Would be grateful for any info on the family of Alexander McNiven b abt 1826 Dumbartonshire who married Rachel Jane Elizabeth Orr b 1828 Edinburgh. They lived in Luss and possibly had the family below. By 1871 it looks like Alexander's sister, Margaret McNiven, has the children in Dollar, Clackmannan. By 1881 I could find only Alister, James, and William McNiven living wigh Jessie Alpine in Govan, Lanark. Would be interesting to know what became of the parents. Thanks. Hi Lorraine, I do think that this your lady. In 1861 their is a little confusion over who is who is the household. You would definitely need to look at the image to confirm what is actually written. The age for Marjory are obviously wrong but the three children look right. Robert and John look like they have died. Thanks for all that, it's really great how every one pitches in and helps each other. I have the banes for a William Whyte and Marion Paterson for 1846 but as my William and Marjory's first child was not born until 1856, ten years was ( still is ) a long time to be married without issue, so I figured it could not have been them. Hi Lorraine, I had a look at your family on the various censuses and I was wondering if you knew that Marjory remarried in 1863 in Saline? If I am right Marjory is still alive in 1901 and her mother Janet Paterson died sometime between 1891 and 1901. I may be on the wrong track completely but as there is a Mary Paterson marrying a John Rankine and then she uses Marjory in the censuses. Also her marriage to Wm Whyte was under Marion. Let me know if you don't have the info and I will forward it on to you.
