Is anyone interested in William Paterson & Catherine Johnston who married December 1777 at Alloa? They moved on to Shettleston, Lanarkshire about two years later. Two of their children Margaret and William are fourth great-grandparents of mine. Neil Cameron

This is the main reason why there is so many variations of spellings of surnames. Cheers Chris L. Patterson" - and I'd go along with Chris. My great-gradnmother was a Mary WHYTE, born in Lochgelly Fife, but her family were originally from Clackmannan. Quite often she referred to herself as Mary Fyte.... She was born in 1880 and died just a week short of 90 in 1970 - so I remember her well! John Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ybean Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.clk.general/466.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You're welcome. In Scotland, there were many non-conformist Presbyterian churches, many of which have not been indexed onto the IGI at FamilySearch nor have the ScotlandsPeople these records as yet. On FamilySearch, the extracted records only go to 1875, so any children after this can only be found on Census records or BMD indexes. Pre this period, to find the children of a set of parents - put in both parents' names in the Father & Mother area. OK - in Scotland, the banns (engagement announcements) were called in both parties church & then usually married in hers: John Robertson & Elizabeth Donaldson 11 Nov 1823 Logie, Perth John Robertson mar Elizabeth Donaldson 20 Jan 1824 Alloa, Clackmannan Because this marriage was pre civil registration (1855) you may not find the parent's names on the marriage records. To find both parents of John Robertson & Elizabeth Donaldson, if they died after 1855 - you will have to get their Death certificates. If you contact me at ykb@gil.com.au I may have more information for you. BonnieB Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You must get Alexander's marriage certificate - this will give you both parent's names. This is a must if you want to prove the line, you cannot only use the Census. If the siblings are right - go to www.familysearch.org you will find that the parents may be John Robertson & Elizabeth Donaldson. You should also find Alexander's marriage on the index there & their children's births (pre 1875 only). Did Alexander marry a Helen Cropper - if so, the marriage & children are all listed. Oh yes - Pre 1975 Logie was listed as being in Perthshire even though this parish crossed the borders of Perthshire, Stirlingshire & Clackmannan.
