    1. Re: [SCT-CLACKMANNANSHIRE] William Hunter
    2. That is interesting! Have you found Agnes on the 1851 Census? I wonder if she could be the Agnes HUNTER, b. abt 1795 Dunfermline, Fife; residing in New Monkland, Lanark. She has a son Joseph with her who was b. abt 1832 in Mircart(?), Perth. If that is suppose to be Muckart, that parish borders Tillicoultry on the north east side above Dollar parish. I found an Agnes CAMPBELL, daughter of Robert CAMPBELL & Margaret WILSON, chr./bap. 21 Aug 1791 Dunfermline, Fife. The year is off. The other Agnes CAMPBELLs I found that were daughters of a Robert and b. between 1790 and 1800 were: Agnes, daur. of Robert CAMPBELL (no mother's name), chr. 8 Apr 1792 Stair, Ayr Agnes, daur. of Robert CAMPBELL & Mary MUNROE, chr. 29 Sep 1794 Inveraray & Glenaray, Argyll Agnes, daur. of Robert CAMPBELL & Violet CAMPBELL, chr. 1 Jan 1794 Middle or New Parish, Greenock, Renfrew Agnes, daur. of Robert CAMPBELL & Christian HAMILTON, chr. 18 Sep 1796 High Church, Paisley, Renfrew. Did not try Ann. Linda > > Thanks, Linda, that's all very interesting indeed, and it could be > possible that Ann was Agnes. 3. Thanks, Linda, that's all very interesting indeed, and it could be possible that Ann was Agnes. They may all have gone to New Monkland, however, as Agnes Campbell died there in 1860. She could have followed the family there after William Hunter perhaps died in Clackmannanshire, but will have to prove this. Thanks so much once again, and I look forward to hearing from you again. 1. Re: [SCT-CLACKMANNANSHIRE] William Hunter
    2. Hello William, Didn't have much luck with the OPR CD. First I searched for a marriage for William HUNTER & Agnes CAMPBELL. The closest thing I could find was William HUNTER & Ann CAMPBELL md. 20 Dec 1817 in Carnock, Fife. Carnock is not very far from Clackmannan, but I am not sure about the Ann. Ann HUNTER, wife of Daniel MCGREGOR, is found on the 1841 Census as Agnes, but all other records have her as Ann. A mistake? Can Ann & Agnes somtimes be used interchangably like Daniel & Donald are? Next I tried for the birth of David HUNTER in Tillicoultry. I didn't even get to try to narrow it down to Tillicoultry because I found a David HUNTER b. 1818 in Clackmannanshire and then the next year for a David HUNTER b. in Clackmannanshire was 1833. Then I tried a parent search for William HUNTER & Ann CAMPBELL anywhere in Scotland. Two children listed for William HUNTER & Agnes CAMPBELL: Margaret HUNTER chr./bap. 24 Jul 1813 Culross, Perth (hmmm - practically nextdoor to Carnock, Fife - see Fife Parish map at http://www.thefifepost.com/fifeparishmap2.jpg ) Robert HUNTER chr./bap 8 Dec 1839 New Monkland, Lanark. No way to know for sure if the two children are for the same couple. There was a marriage in New Monkland in Jan 1839 for a William HUNTER & Ann CAMPBELL. (does the above Robert belong to them? Could this William marrying in 1839 be a son of the other William?) Children found in New Monkland for William HUNTER & Ann CAMPBELL: Thomas HUNTER chr./bap. 7 Jan 1838 Charlotte HUNTER b. Dec 1841 John HUNTER chr./bap. 27 Dec 1844 Alexander HUNTER chr./bap. 3 Jan 1847 Margaret HUNTER chr./bap. 27 May 1849. I tried someother things and will continue this tomorrow. There are also some thoughts that I didn't get to experiment with. Maybe next week. If you are not familiar with this OPR CD, I can tell you about it. From what I have seen, it appears to be the same parish record index that ScotlandsPeople has. Why didn't i find your people in the Tillicoultry records? I don't know. I can tell you that when I was going through some of the microfilm for the Dollar Parish records looking for MCGREGOR clues, I found an entry by an apparently new Minister that said "There is a blank in this Register of Proclamations from 1736 till 1766." So many marriages not recorded! I am sure that Dollar was not the only parish to have missing records. Regards, Linda > > Thanks for your help, Linda. Perhaps this Ann Hunter could have been > the sister of William, but I don't have his parents to prove it. 3. Does anyone have any information about William Hunter who was born late 1800's or early 1900's in Alloa. He married Agnes Campbell, daughter of Robert Campbell, and she seems to have been born around 1794. Their son was David Hunter who was born about 1826 in Tillicoultry and died in Stanrigg in 1874. He married Ann Russell, who was born in 1830 in Cumbernauld. The family may have all moved to New Monkland, but I can find no evidence of this in the 1841 Census there. In the 1841 Census in Clackmannan there was a widow Hunter age 50 with a son David age 15 and another Census shows an Agness Hunter age 56 with a son David age 13. She would have been too old, unless there was a mistake in entering her age. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has these ancestors.

    2. Hello William These are not my ancestors, but I do have some HUNTER information from Tillicoultry. Don't have a William in my computer program, so I will have to dig in my files to see if I have anything. An Ann HUNTER, b. 17 Mar 1796 and bap. 29 Mar 1796 in Tillicoultry daughter of John HUNTER and Margaret HUNTER, md. Daniel MCGREGOR, brother of my husband's Duncan MCGREGOR. Since it looks like David HUNTER and Ann RUSSELL md. abt 1845 in New Monkland parish, I wondered if David might be in that area in 1841. Found the following which seems interesting: 1841 Scotland Census Name: David Hunter Age: 15 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826 Gender:Male Where born: Scotland Civil Parish: Old Monkland County: Lanarkshire Address: Pupoday Occupation: Male Servant Parish Number: 652 In the same household: Name: John Hunter Age: 20 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821 (possibly older "The ages of people over 15 years old were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Therefore, someone who was actually 24 years would have their age listed as 20, and someone who was actually 27 years old would have their age listed as 25. If people lied about their ages, or if their real ages were not known or reported correctly, the gap between the rounded age recorded on the census and their actual age may be quite significant." Ancestry.com's info. regarding the 1841 Census) Gender: Male Where born: Scotland Occupation: Male Servant Head of household appears to be: Name: James Bealle Age: 45 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1796 Gender: Male Where born: Lanarkshire, Scotland Occupation: Farmer Of course it does not help you get to the previous generation. Hate when that happens! Tried a search of Ancestry.com's 1851 Census index for any Hun*r in Lanarkshire that was b. in Clackman*. Results - 24 people, 18 of them in New Monkland, 1 in Old Monkland. 3 say specifically Tillicoultry, another that was probably mistranscribed has Lellicouttry. Some just say Clackmannanshire or Clackmannan. There was a "Pollar" that I think should probably be Dollar. Coalnaughter is probably Coalsnaughton - " A collier village about a mile to the south of Tillicoultry" [Clackmannan and Kinross by J.P.Day B.A. B Sc., 1915]. Another says Devon which might be Devonside which is described as being between Tillicoultry and Coalsnaughton on the river Devon. The Blairingore is probably Blainingone and looks most likely to be in Dollar parish. Well, they didn't all didn't leave Tillicoultry since there were 188 of them there in 1841! Do you know where William HUNTER and Agnes CAMPBELL married? Linda > Does anyone have any information about William Hunter who was born > late 1800's or early 1900's in Alloa.
