New to this list and searching for my GG Grandfather Thomas Spence who has stated on his daughter's 1896 Forfarshire birth certificate that his domicile was Pulteney Town and that his occupation was a Quarry Labourer. Any help or advice on how to find any information on this Thomas Spence or any of his relatives would be greatly appreciated. This Thomas Spence was, unfortunately for anyone trying to trace him, a traveller and although I have discovered everything about the last eight years of his life (1925-1933), his lifestyle is causing great difficulty in discovering anything about his earlier years. My belief is that he was born about 1856 and my hope is, that the information he has given on my Grandmother's birth certificate was at last fact rather than fiction and that Pulteney Town or somewhere in Caithness is actually where he may have been born! Any one out there who can help me or point me in the right direction? Anne (Desperate)
Anne Pulteneytown is part of Wick in Caithness. If he was born there in 1856, you might find him in the 1861 Census for the Parish of Wick.
