Hello Listers, In regards the comments of late baptisms of children & how an Earl of Caithness baptised his at a much later date. These comments are an example of what you should not do, that is just use indexes & not go back to the source from which that index was made. The Earls children are a classic example, he was first cousin to my 3xgreatgrandmother. From Canisbay Register of Christenings where a section is inserted & the following is written. " Letter from The Right Honorable the Earl of Caithness to the Session Clerk of Canisbay. Sir, Finding that none of the names of my family have been inserted in the Parochial Record of their respective baptisms. I have to request that you will insert either in one or more pages of your Record at the date hereof the copy hereto annexed of their names and the dates of their respective births copied here from one of the book binders leaves of the Family Bible of Barrogil Castle in which each of their names was regularly insertred at the time of their baptism - to which it may also prefer that you prefix this my request as explanatory of the occasion thereof, mentioning that I have also of this date sent a similar copy to be inserted in the Parochial Register at Wick as they are in some measure connected also with this Parish by my estate therein. And be so good as to send me a note of the dues of Registration, both of this my request and of the following copy of my family extracted as I have said and I will give orders for payment.
