Greetings to the List While searching I have come across a number of death entries which have the following phrase - ..." Bur ChYd of Thurso, certified by James Wright, Superintenent...." (this is in 1856) I have some questions which I am hoping someone might be able to help me with. 1. Which church would this churchyard be a part of? Location? 2 Is there any data available about the Superintendents of that time? and if so, where would it be located? 3 What would the Superintendent's job entail, besides certifying burials? This James Wright is one of my people and I would like to know a bit more about him. Thank you for your help. I have just started investigating the Lindsays as I have received information from my aunt who is visiting Australia. Helen Lindsay on the 1881 census states her birth year as 1838 (aged 43) and born at Olgin, Sutherland. I asume she meant Caithness. Her birth is not recorded on the IGI so I am looking to listers for some help before ordering OPR film and hoping that her birth was recorded. Family legend has it that she was disowned by her parents just after the birth of my gg grandfather William Lindsay Waters (he took on the Waters name after Helen married David Waters in Leith in 1866). Helens parents were suposed to have property in the Fife area. Helens mother was reported to have traveled by private coach to Leith. Took a look at the child and was never seen again. Helen was given money by her brother (name not known) when he went to Leith to sell cattle. Helen was also said to have had a sister. Hope some one can help out there. I'm looking for information on the following Campbell line:- John Campbell + Janet Sutherland George Campbell b. abt. 1823, Borgue, Dunbeath, m. 26 Dec 1851, Berridale, d. 2 Jul 1889, Newport, Berridale + Catherine Bain b. 29 Nov 1822, Newport, Berridale, d. 29 Jun 1900, Newport, Berridale John Campbell b. abt. 1853 Alexander Campbell b. 16 Oct 1855, Newport, Berridale, d. 21 Mar 1946, Windy House, Berridale + Margaret Ross b. abt. 1864 Jessie Campbell b. abt. 1895 Christina Campbell b. abt. 1865 Catherine Campbell b. abt. 1884 Catherine Bain is my Great Great GrandAunt. Catherine Campbell b. abt 1884 is shown in the 1891 Census as the Granddaughter of Catherine Bain, age 7. As the entry immediately follows Christina Campbell's entry, my guess is she is Christina's illegitimate daughter, Christina is shown as unmarried in 1891. However, Catherine may be the legitimate daughter of another unknown child of Catherine Bain. All children are shown as unmarried in 1891. Catherine Campbell doesn't appear in the 1901 Census for Latheron and there's no death record for a Catherine Campbell of the right age between 1891 and 1951 in Latheron, but up to 1,041 records throughout Scotland. I guess this will have to wait until I next visit the GRO, the search criteria is easier to refine there than it is from the Website. Regards, Chris Macneill (Sharp)
