    3. Hi All, I am trying to find the parents of James Doull of Stemster. He was married to Margaret Durrand of Wick. The children that I have found to this couple are Margaret Doull b 27 Aug 1758 Stemster, Alexander Doull b 5 Oct 1760 Stemster, Elspet Doull b 15 Aug 1765, William Doull b 27 Sept 1767 Stemster. I am hoping to find that James parents were William Doull and Elspeth Craich but have had no luck at this stage making a connection. It could be that I am completely wrong. Hope someone can set me on the right path. Cheers. Pat

    3. Hi Laura, I can't help you with any BREMNERs but perhaps you can help me. I am trying to find information on a Isabella BREMNER and John ROBSON who married in Canisbay about 1745-1750. I believe Isabella used Elizabeth as her name at the wedding. They had a son John in April 1750. One of my ancestors was John ROBSON married to Isabella ????? who appear in Elsdon Northumberland in 1750 with a son John born that year. I can't find any John ROBSON marrying an Isabella in Northumberland in a reasonable time scale so I am investigating the pair from Canisbay. Do you know of them? did they have any more children in Scotland? or did they emigrate to the colonies? If either of these possibities then they can be eliminated from my enquiries. John Robson

    2. Stuart Saunders
    3. Hello Celeste and Colin, I am very interested in your posts regarding the above. I have only recently discovered that my 4 X great grandfather was George OLL (Born C.1760) who married Janet SMITH (Born C.1765) in Wick in January 1787. Their son Alexander OAL (Born; C1790) was my 3 X great grandfather. He married Margaret MURRAY in Wick in November 1814. Their son, John OAL aka AULD (Born C.1817) was my g.great grandfather. During the 1800's the family appeared to change their name from OAL to AULD then back again as the mood took them. At the end of the century they seemed to finally settle on AULD. Do any of these connect with your OLL/OAL researches? I should be delighted to hear from you. Regards. Stuart, Edenbridge, Kent

    3. i am researching the OAG surname (as originating in Caithness) concentrating on the female lines as much as possible. i don't have a whole lot of information other than that shared by Valerie Oag who has done a straight line back to Elspeth FARQUHAR and Alexander OAG. However, my ggrandfather was born William OAG in Pulteneytown, Wick, Caithness to John Oag (parents William O. and Margaret FORBES) and Isabella BREMNER (whose mother's maiden name was also BREMNER) (parents Alexander and Elizabeth BREMNER). Since the BREMNER cup also overfloweth, please send me any odd BREMNERs as well as OAGs you find lying about. :-) Namaste, Laurie in Ontario, Canada IBSSG, RAOGK Volunteer

    3. Hi Tricia, I don't have any link to PETRIE. I thought the idea of the Mailing List was that we help each other if at all possible. Whilst doing my own family research I noted down the PETRIE names that I found as I knew that George W. was seeking information. If I can, I don't mind helping anyone. I've also been taking a note of the name OAL as I knew someone else was looking for information - I also have OAL in my family. I've yet to put my OAL information on the Caithness mailing list. I notice you are a MORE. I also have MORE in my family ... going back to 1725 with James More (Sarclet). My ggg grandmother was Elizabeth More, born 29 Dec 1803 Sarclet, and married to Donald Anderson, Sarclet. Happy hunting, Celeste

    3. Hi Celeste The information you gave with the Caithness births and marriages is great thanks. I am linked to Petrie from Caithness. The marriage you listed of William Petrie to Catherine Gun. William is my half 4g Uncle. His parents were Donald Petrie b 1734 d 1775 and Mary Sutherland. Mary married again after Donald's death to Magnus Cormack my 4 g grandfather. There were no children from William Petrie and Catherine Gun. My Donald b 1734 most likely links to George Weston's line but we have yet to prove it. Very close though :) What is your link to the Caithness Petries? Tricia born Patricia MORE, Wick Caithness now in Banbury UK

    3. I was researching my families in Volumes One and Two of "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation" (1867 for you out-of-towners) for the names of my folks: BURGESS, BANNERMAN, MCCALLUM, MCDONALD, MCLEAN and got them all. As a consequence, I've got extra names which appear on the pages I needed and can check for the following surnames in addition to the ones listed above. If your Scottish-Canadian surnames are covered in this, and you want them checked, reply to me at jcmclean@sprint.ca There is quite a lot of information available in the entries in this little gem. Here's what I have: VOLUME 1 SURNAMES : AULD to BARCLAY BRYDEN to BURNET MCBRIDE to MCCONNACHIE MCCUNN to MACDONELL MCLAREN to MACLELLAN VOL 2 SURNAMES: BAILLIE to BANKS BANNERMAN to BARROWMAN BUCHANAN to BYERS MACAULEY to MCCONNELL MCCULLOCH to MCDOUGALL MACKINNON to MCLEAY Note that Mc's and Mac's are both included

    3. Susie I think that they are the same couple, marrying twice. Some of the responses I've had indicate that the dates are for banns called in both parishes. The bride's name was Elizabeth. In one parish she used Elizabeth & in the other Betty, which is the short form of Elizabeth. So no-one is researching this family? :( regards Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: <Spmarjan@aol.com> To: <SCT-CAITHNESS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 24, 2003 9:09 AM Subject: Re: Multiple Marriages > Re: Mulitple marriages, > > Are we looking at a legal marriage, then a common-law one?
